Parmesan Meatloaf: A Classic Recipe with a Cheesy Twist

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat the Oven

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Line a baking sheet or loaf pan with parchment paper or lightly grease it.

Step 2: Mix the Meatloaf Ingredients

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan, chopped onion, minced garlic, eggs, milk, Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
  2. Use your hands to mix everything thoroughly but gently, being careful not to overwork the meat mixture.

Step 3: Shape the Meatloaf

  1. Transfer the meat mixture to the prepared baking sheet or loaf pan.
  2. Shape it into a loaf form, ensuring it’s evenly shaped for even cooking.

Step 4: Add the Topping

  1. Spread the marinara sauce evenly over the top of the meatloaf.
  2. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses over the marinara sauce.

Step 5: Bake

  1. Place the meatloaf in the preheated oven and bake for 50-60 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
  2. For a golden, bubbly topping, switch to the broiler setting for the last 2-3 minutes of baking.

Step 6: Rest and Serve

  1. Remove the meatloaf from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
  2. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley for added flavor and presentation.
  3. Serve with mashed potatoes, steamed vegetables, or a side salad.

Tips for Success

  • Use Fresh Parmesan: Freshly grated Parmesan cheese provides the best flavor and melts beautifully.
  • Don’t Overmix: Overworking the meat mixture can make the meatloaf dense and tough.
  • Check the Temperature: Use a meat thermometer to ensure the meatloaf is fully cooked but not overdone.
  • Customize the Seasoning: Add a pinch of red pepper flakes for some heat or fresh herbs like basil or thyme for added depth.
