Parmesan Meatloaf: A Classic Recipe with a Cheesy Twist

Instructions
Step 1: Preheat the Oven
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Line a baking sheet or loaf pan with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
Step 2: Mix the Meatloaf Ingredients
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan, chopped onion, minced garlic, eggs, milk, Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
- Use your hands to mix everything thoroughly but gently, being careful not to overwork the meat mixture.
Step 3: Shape the Meatloaf
- Transfer the meat mixture to the prepared baking sheet or loaf pan.
- Shape it into a loaf form, ensuring it’s evenly shaped for even cooking.
Step 4: Add the Topping
- Spread the marinara sauce evenly over the top of the meatloaf.
- Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses over the marinara sauce.
Step 5: Bake
- Place the meatloaf in the preheated oven and bake for 50-60 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
- For a golden, bubbly topping, switch to the broiler setting for the last 2-3 minutes of baking.
Step 6: Rest and Serve
- Remove the meatloaf from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
- Garnish with freshly chopped parsley for added flavor and presentation.
- Serve with mashed potatoes, steamed vegetables, or a side salad.
Tips for Success
- Use Fresh Parmesan: Freshly grated Parmesan cheese provides the best flavor and melts beautifully.
- Don’t Overmix: Overworking the meat mixture can make the meatloaf dense and tough.
- Check the Temperature: Use a meat thermometer to ensure the meatloaf is fully cooked but not overdone.
- Customize the Seasoning: Add a pinch of red pepper flakes for some heat or fresh herbs like basil or thyme for added depth.
